What kinds of concerts take place at Music Mansion? Chamber music concerts, solo recitals, musicales, cabaret-type performances, small vocal and instrumental ensembles.
How do I get to the Music Mansion? The Music Mansion is located at the corner of Congdon and Meeting Streets. (Meeting is a one way heading east.) From Providence downcity: Take Waterman Street east to Prospect Street north (turn left). Turn left on Angell Street west and right on Congdon Street north. From I-95 North: Take exit 22A Memorial Blvd/Downtown and merge onto Memorial Blvd. Turn left on Waterman Street east then turn left on Prospect Street north. Turn left on Angell Street west and right on Congdon Street north. From I-95 South: Take exit 23 Charles St., make a U-Turn left on RI-246S/Ashburton St., and continue south on Canal St. Turn left on Waterman Street east then turn left on Prospect Street north. Turn left on Angell Street west and right on Congdon Street north.
When is the Music Mansion available? The Music Mansion may be reserved September through mid-June. It is closed for the summer and some holidays. Please see calendar or inquire for more details.
Do any other kinds of events take place there? Yes. The hall is used as rehearsal space for ensembles, for student recitals, for small wedding receptions, other types of receptions, poetry readings with music, lecture-recitals, and other events with a musical component.
How many people does the hall seat? 88
How big is the stage? 20x10 feet with 2 grand pianos face-to-face
Is there a sound system or a video projector? Yes, there is a Bose L1 Pro8 Sound System (user manual) with 2 microphones / stands. There is a $25 fee for use of the sound system. There is no video projector.
Can I bring in my own sound system or video projector? Yes. Video projection may be difficult unless you bring a free-standing screen or other surface upon which to project (nothing may be hung on the walls/attached to the building itself).
What kind of lighting is available in the performance space? Wall sconces, center, left and right stationery spotlights and a chandelier above the stage, as well as two floor lamps near the pianos.
How often are the pianos tuned? The Steinway is tuned about four times per season (September to June) based on current use. The Mason & Hamlin piano is tuned less regularly. You may have a piano tuned for your specific performance for an additional fee of $150. Users may not apply preparations of any type to these pianos.
Is there a green room? Yes, there is a space just off stage left that may serve as a place from which performers may enter/store equipment.
Is there air conditioning? No. As such, the hall is only available for rental September–early June.
Could I use the fireplace or balcony? No.
Where do people park? Free street parking (driveway should remain clear except for loading).
Could I rent the Music Mansion for an art exhibit? Yes, except no artwork is permitted to be nailed or tacked to walls, no modifications to the building.
Is the Music Mansion ADA Accessible? Presently the Music Mansion is not ADA compliant (there is a small set of steps upon entering the building), but fundraising efforts and renovations are underway to make the building accessible to all.
